The valley of the whales (Wadi al Hitan) in Egypt -  UNESCO World Heritage

Passing lake Qaroun, 45 meters below sea level, 42 kms long and 9 kms wide, we find the protected area (Wadi el Rayan), a mix of desert, lakes and water falls,also the mountain (Jabal el Medawara) a magnificent view on the lake. The visit of the valley of the whales (Wadi el Hitan) a world heritage site has begun since 2005. This site is 40 million years old situated in the western desert of Egypt offers a beautiful decoration with a little way that you can walk to discover the fossils of the whales. The site is unique in its richness, its the only and the biggest site to tell about this period of the evolution of the whales as modern ocean going mammals from a previous life as land based animals. Wadi el Hitan is unique and you need one day visite since you go in the early morning from Cairo, and two days if you want to spend the night under the stars in the desert, or in a nice hotel 30 kms to the protected area.
